Where Home Never Was
Arielle Busby and her mother had their lives turned upside down when they lost their home. This short documentary tells their story, following the two as they deal with the challenges of homelessness in Los Angeles, from the obstacles built into the system to the personal struggles that come with not having a stable place to live. Along the way they turn to social workers and advocates for help, and the film shows how much a caring community can matter in the hardest of times. Directed by Rain Herbert and produced by Nakisha Celistan, the nine-minute film was made through the Girls' Voices Now program, with Arielle Busby herself also part of the filmmaking team. Honest and moving, Where Home Never Was is a portrait of a mother and daughter's resilience, and a reminder that homelessness is a story about real families and the people who stand beside them.
