Girls' Voices Now

Girls' Voices Now brings together short nonfiction films created by teenage girls and young women from Los Angeles neighborhoods whose stories are rarely told on screen. Through a summer filmmaking program run by Women's Voices Now, teenage girls learn to make their own films, then use those skills to tell stories that matter to them — about family, identity, homelessness, the environment, community and the challenges of growing up. Here TV presents the films as a collection spanning seven seasons. The series won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Form Children's Program in 2021 for Under the Scarf, and has since earned Children's & Family Emmy nominations for Outstanding Live Action Short Form Program for The Beauty in Being Different in 2024 and All You Need Is Less in 2025. Personal, thoughtful and often eye-opening, Girls' Voices Now gives a new generation of filmmakers the chance to be heard and to share their perspectives with a wider audience.
