Phoenix

Phoenix is a short documentary about women whose courage often goes unseen. When wildfires tore through the Los Angeles area in January 2025, among those battling the flames were women serving time in custody, along with women who grew up in the foster care system. The film shares their experiences and highlights the contributions they made during the emergency, giving voice to women who rarely receive public recognition for their heroism. Directed by Sarah Khaled, Phoenix Inaya, Chylier Williams, Ava Brenner and Kendra Harris, the eight-minute film was made through the Girls' Voices Now program in Los Angeles. In telling these stories, it challenges viewers to rethink who they consider heroes and what recovery looks like for families and communities rebuilding after the fires. A moving tribute to the strength and resilience of women whose efforts deserve to be known.
