Without a Mom

Two gay dads have raised their son with plenty of love, but nothing has quite prepared them for the day his first real romance comes to an end. Their son is straight and heartbroken, and as the fathers try to give him the comfort and guidance he needs, they find themselves fumbling for the right words, with results that are as touching as they are awkward. Directed by Branden Blinn, who wrote the film with Billy Bean, this 13-minute American short stars Austin Stowell, Billy Bean, Taymour Ghazi and Kristen Clement. With humor and warmth, it looks at a modern family facing a very ordinary rite of passage, and at parents learning that showing up and trying is often what matters most. Without a Mom is a gentle story about love, loss and the many shapes a family can take.
