Upside Down

A ten-year-old girl forms an unexpected friendship with a transgender woman who lives in her building, even though her mother does not approve. Drawn to her neighbor's warmth and honesty, the girl finds in her a source of comfort and discovery at a time when she needs both. Written and directed by Shira Levin, this 19-minute American short blends comedy and drama, and it features Amira Daigle, Autumn Weisz, Carol Jacobanis and Tim Hache. Seen through a child's eyes, the story looks at prejudice, trust and the friendships that can form across the lines adults draw, while keeping its touch light and its heart open. Upside Down is a gentle, sincere film about a girl learning to decide for herself who deserves her trust, and about the simple kindness that can grow between neighbors when given half a chance.
