The Uninhabitable Ones

A contemporary dance company in Brazil is getting ready to premiere its newest work, The Uninhabitable Ones, a piece that takes black homosexuality as its subject. Alongside the rehearsals, the choreographer forms a friendship with Pedro, a black child who does not identify as a boy and is searching for a way to express who they are. Writer-director Anderson Bardot moves between the studio and everyday life, letting the discipline and physical language of the dancers echo Pedro's more private search for a form that fits. Castiel Vitorino Brasileiro, Markus Konká, Lucciano Coelho, Mauro Marques and Gil Mendes make up the cast of this twenty-five-minute drama. Graceful and searching, The Uninhabitable Ones is a film about bodies, belonging and the spaces people create when the world has not yet made room for them. It is also featured in the anthology The Gay Agenda 36.
