The Carer

Ari is a refined, worldly gay man who has reluctantly moved into a care home as age catches up with him. There he meets Beau, the handsome young man assigned to look after him, a former thief who never learned to read. The two could hardly be more different, and their first encounters bristle with suspicion, yet the daily routines of care draw them into a bond neither expected, one that alters where each of their lives is headed. Directed by Christine Parker, with Peter Eyre, Barney Glover and Stephan Chase in the cast, this British short is a warm, wry drama about dignity in later life and the unexpected places where connection can take root. Gently paced and keenly observed, The Carer finds in an unlikely pairing a story about what two people from very different worlds can teach each other.
