The Advocate On-Air

The Advocate On-Air brings the reporting of The Advocate, the long-running gay and lesbian news magazine, to television. Hosted by broadcast journalist Thomas Roberts, the series covers the political, legal and cultural stories shaping the lives of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans, from court cases and legislation to shifts in public opinion and the personal stories of the people at the center of the news. Produced during a period of rapid change, it treats community news as serious news, presented with clarity and context in a straightforward magazine format. Seen today, the program also works as a record of its time, capturing the issues, debates and personalities that drew headlines and showing how much the conversation has shifted in the years since.
