South of Bix

Molly has been estranged from her grandfather for years, but word that he is dying brings her back home to say goodbye. The visit forces her to face the family she left behind, including her mother, and the question of what kind of farewell is possible with someone she has kept at a distance for so long. Justine Lupe, familiar to television audiences from Succession and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, stars as Molly and co-wrote and co-directed the short with Briana Pozner. M. Emmet Walsh plays her grandfather and Laura Innes her mother, while Juliana Canfield is heard as Bix. Spare and quietly affecting at fourteen minutes, South of Bix is a story about reconciliation and closure, and about how going home can stir up feelings we thought were long settled. It was selected for the 2020 Aspen Shortsfest.
