Scarlett Smoke

Scarlett Smoke is a drag queen with an unusual calling: people come to her to confess, convinced that she alone has the power to absolve them. One after another they arrive with their sins, from small slip-ups to bigger burdens, and Scarlett hears them out with a blend of glamour, patience and pointed wit. Directed by Alex Pop from a script by Alex Sebastian Laibach, this nine-minute Canadian comedy stars Jonathan Becotte, Maha El Assaad and Robert Verret. The film turns the confessional into a stage, playing with the solemn ritual of guilt and forgiveness while celebrating the drag queen as both entertainer and unexpected source of grace. Light, clever and affectionate, it offers absolution with a raised eyebrow.
