Road to the Runway

Road to the Runway follows transgender models from across North America as they head to Los Angeles to compete for a place with Slay Model Management, an agency devoted to transgender talent. Created by Slay founder Cecilio Asuncion, the documentary series tracks the search from open call to final runway, then travels home with the contestants to see the families and places that shaped them, some supportive and some far less so. Model Arisce Wanzer appears alongside Asuncion, with Phil Anthony, RD Alba and Mylla James among the featured participants. Told in half-hour episodes across one season, the series blends the drama of a fashion competition with personal portraits, presenting its subjects as daughters, friends and partners whose stories reach well beyond the catwalk. It is a look at ambition, family and the work of being seen.
