Never or Now

Alan Driscol has lived a life of achievement and respectability, and now, in its final moments, he takes stock of the one experience he never permitted himself. Reaching out at last, he arranges an encounter with a young man, choosing at the very end to stop denying what he has wanted all along. Directed by Branden Blinn from a script by Gregory Phelan, this 18-minute short drama stars Smith Crowe, Allen Weiss and Marsha Musial. Rather than sensationalizing its subject, the film treats Alan's decision with dignity, focusing on the weight of a lifetime of restraint and the strange freedom that comes when there is nothing left to lose. Intimate and bittersweet, Never or Now is a quiet chamber piece about regret, courage and the idea that it may never be too late to be honest with yourself.
