Misconceptions
Miranda Bliss is a devout, conservative woman who takes her faith at its word, so when she becomes convinced that God has sent her a message, she follows it. The instruction surprises everyone: she is to become a surrogate and carry a baby for a married gay couple in Boston — one a Jewish physician, the other an African-American choreographer. Her decision baffles her husband, unsettles the people around her and throws two very different households together. Directed by Ron Satlof, who wrote the script with Ira Pearlstein, this comedy stars A. J. Cook as Miranda, with Orlando Jones, David Sutcliffe, Sarah Carter, Tom Bower and David Moscow. Behind its culture-clash setup is a warm story about two families with almost nothing in common learning to see one another clearly, and about how the arrival of a child can change what people think they believe.
