Metamorphosis

Carlos is a shy, inward young man who has spent years keeping his homosexuality hidden, and he is tired of it. He finally resolves to find the courage to tell the truth to the person whose reaction he fears most: his father, a hard, disciplined military man. Directed by Sandro Arceo Espinosa, this 16-minute Mexican short stars Salvador Leñero, Alejandro Acuña Sevilla and Saúl Zapata, and builds steadily toward that conversation, letting the tension in the household grow before anything is said aloud. The title points to more than one kind of change: the transformation Carlos hopes for in his relationship with his father, and the one already taking place within himself as he chooses honesty over silence. A compact, Spanish-language coming-out drama, Metamorphosis is about the private courage it takes to be truthful with the people who matter most.
