Me & the Girls

Lori Michaels, a performer who bills herself as the Dyke Diva, has built her act on confidence, glamour and big personality. Offstage, though, she is still reeling from a painful breakup, and the timing could hardly be worse: she and her dancers are preparing to take their Me & the Girls stage show to Womenfest, the annual celebration for women held each year in Key West. Directed by Michael Eldridge, this 41-minute documentary follows Lori and her troupe, including Daisy Flores, Karen Filos and Lauren Fernandez, through rehearsals and the countdown to showtime as she tries to hold the production and herself together. Part backstage story and part portrait of a performer under pressure, it is a warm look at a close-knit group of women who keep the show going when life gets messy.
