Martinis & Murder: Inside the Donald Strachey Mysteries

Between 2005 and 2008, Here TV brought Richard Stevenson's novels about Donald Strachey, a gay private investigator based in Albany, New York, to the screen in four television mysteries: Third Man Out, Shock to the System, On the Other Hand, Death and Ice Blues. This 79-minute documentary, directed by Bonnie Jean Mah, goes behind the scenes of the series with exclusive interviews from the people who made it. Chad Allen, who played Strachey, and Sebastian Spence, who played his partner Timothy Callahan, talk about bringing an openly gay detective couple to life, while director Ron Oliver, producer James Shavick and guest star Margot Kidder share their memories of working on the films. A companion piece for fans of the mysteries, it looks at how a series that paired classic detective plotting with a loving relationship at its center came together.
