Marie

Marie has been away from home for years, and it is the death of her father that finally brings her back to her hometown in Brazil. There she reunites with Estêvão, her closest friend from childhood, who agrees to help her make the journey to Crato so that her father can be buried. Written and directed by Leo Tabosa, this 24-minute Brazilian drama follows the two old friends on the road, as the bond they shared as children resurfaces and Marie, a transgender woman, confronts the family history and the place she left behind. Wallie Ruy plays Marie, with Rômulo Braga, Divina Valéria and Arlindo Lima. Quiet and tender, Marie is a road movie about grief, homecoming and the friendships that keep a part of us safe while we are gone.
