Into the Storm

Pol and Lucas are spending a holiday in northern Spain. Over the course of the trip they dance, shout and argue, and in the process they discover new things about themselves and each other. On the surface it looks like any couple's getaway, but beneath it lies a growing distance, and the trip becomes a reckoning with everything they have stopped saying. Directed by Jesús Díaz Morcillo, who also stars opposite Patrick Martino, this Spanish short captures a relationship at a turning point, paying close attention to the silences that build between two people. The coastal landscape, bright one moment and moody the next, reflects the shifting emotions of the couple. In the end, what goes unsaid weighs more than anything spoken aloud, and the storm of the title is as much emotional as it is a change in the weather. Into the Storm runs about seventeen minutes.
