Hot Gay Comics

Taped in front of a live crowd at the New York comedy club Comix, Hot Gay Comics puts gay and lesbian stand-up comedians in the spotlight. Comedian Dave Rubin hosts, opening each episode with his own set before introducing a lineup of performers, including Anne Neczypor, Mike Singer and Shawn Hollenbach. The material covers dating, family, work, coming out and the small absurdities of everyday life, all delivered by comics who honed their acts on the club circuit. Directed by Michael Eldridge, the series premiered on Here TV in late 2008 and offers a lively snapshot of the New York comedy scene of the time, when openly gay comics were still a rare sight on television. Funny, fast-paced and welcoming to anyone who enjoys a good night of stand-up, it is a showcase of voices that helped open the door for the comedians who followed.
