Gay Camp

Imagine a world where most people are gay, and the children who show signs of being straight are packed off to special camps to be set right. Gay Camp presents itself as a promotional video for one of those camps, and in flipping the roles it turns the logic of real-world conversion camps on its head. Directed by Mark Marchillo and written by Gabriel Oliva, who stars alongside Maria Pallas, Aaron R Landon and Kyle Kittredge, this ten-minute American comedy short uses satire to make an absurd and painful practice impossible to ignore. Its humor is sharp, but its aim is serious: by reversing who is told they need fixing, it shows how harmful the idea of correcting someone's identity really is. A clever, biting satire that gets its point across with a smile and leaves viewers with plenty to think about.
