Carol Support Group
A group of women gathers for a twelve-step meeting with a very unusual focus: every one of them is hooked on Carol, Todd Haynes's 2015 romance starring Cate Blanchett. The road to recovery does not run smoothly. When one devoted member, Blanche, begins channeling Carol Aird herself, the session tips from confession into outright mutiny, and the rest of the group, along with their weary therapist, find the temptation hard to resist. Written and directed by Allison Tate, this eight-minute comedy is packed with the lines, looks and gestures that fans of the film will recognize instantly. Ashley Morton, Julia Farino, Brett Candace, Phyllis M. Nofts and Gillian Cameron make up the support group. Carol Support Group was an Official Selection at Frameline, the San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival, in 2017, and it is an affectionate send-up of lesbian film fandom and of how one movie can take over a life.
