Barely in Love

Yotam is a teenager in Israel's religious Bnei Akiva youth movement, a world where faith, family and community are tightly bound together. When a new troupe leader arrives, Yotam's carefully ordered life begins to shake, and feelings he has kept hidden start rising to the surface. Forced to face his sexual orientation, he finds himself caught between the religion he was raised in and a truth he can no longer ignore, and between his own heart and the expectations of the family he loves. Written, directed and produced by Nadav Mishali, this fifteen-minute Israeli drama stars Haim Avraham Segev, with Ruby Porat Shoval and Yarin Dadush. It is a tender, unsentimental portrait of first love arriving in a place that has no room for it, told with restraint and real empathy for everyone involved.
