ALFI

Sixteen-year-old Noga has been asked to give a speech on behalf of ALFI, the Animal Liberation Front Israel, and the words simply will not come. Helping her is Lea, an older and more experienced activist whose confidence and conviction Noga finds hard to look away from. As the two work through draft after draft, the assignment becomes something more personal: Noga dreams of freedom for every living creature and for herself, yet she cannot find the language for either. Directed by Raz BDV and starring Leila Rose Bari and Bar Ruso, this twenty-two-minute Israeli short is a quiet coming-of-age story that uses the vocabulary of activism to explore first attraction and the struggle to find your own voice. It captures the intensity of a teenager who wants to set the whole world free before she has learned how to speak for herself.
